Dental implant surgery is a modern technique that replaces a missing tooth with a titanium post placed directly into the jawbone, acting as an artificial root. After the implant fully integrates with the bone (usually 3-6 months), the dentist attaches a finished ceramic crown on top.
Compared to other restoration methods like bridges or dentures, implants offer several advantages: no need to prepare adjacent teeth, prevention of jawbone loss, and long-term durability with proper care.
Before placement, patients need a 3D CT scan to evaluate jawbone density. In cases of significant bone loss, additional bone grafting may be required before implant surgery.
